Five things to consider before starting with ACV

Five things to consider before starting with ACV

As you might already know, Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) has several health benefits. However, consuming it the wrong way can prove unhealthy and dangerous.

Here are five things about ACV that you might not know:

1. If you are consuming ACV after eating your meals or right before bedtime, you need to rethink!
Consuming ACV after having food can delay the digestion process. It is better to have it on an empty stomach. People who face digestion issues can have ACV right before their meal. It will substitute for the lost gastric juices and help digest the food easily.
Having it just before sleeping can irritate the oesophagus as there is a possibility of regurgitation.
Irrespective of the time you consume ACV, ensure that you sit upright for at least 30 minutes to prevent acid reflux.

2. Excessive intake of ACV is not good for health
ACV can do wonders to your body, but this does not mean that you can go overboard with it. Overdoing ACV can impact health negatively. It holds not only for ACV but for any food or supplement.

Drinking excessive amounts of ACV can decrease the potassium levels in the body to hazardous levels. It can be dangerous if you have any underlying health conditions such as high blood pressure.

Always start with a smaller dose, especially if you are new to ACV. It will help your body to adapt to it. You can reduce the amount if you experience any unpleasant symptoms such as stomach upset or burning sensation.

3. ACV can erode your tooth enamel
ACV can wear away tooth enamel and lead to dental cavities and tooth decay. To minimize the risk, you can dilute ACV with water (1:10). For additional protection of the teeth, avoid sipping or swigging the mixture from a cup. Instead, try drinking it from a straw and rinse the mouth with plain water afterwards to keep ACV from wearing on your tooth enamel. Also, wait for 30 minutes before brushing your teeth after having ACV.

4. ACV can interact with your medicines
If you take insulin or diuretics, you must talk to your healthcare provider if you are interested in drinking ACV.

5. Do not consume ACV if you have a kidney ailment
Your kidneys may not be able to process the excess acid that comes along with drinking ACV. Therefore, it is best to avoid ACV if you have chronic kidney disease.
